The Palestinian Center for Prisoners Advocacy Delivers a Letter, Through Prisoners’ Families, to the Office of the International Committee of the Red Cross

The Palestinian Center for Prisoners Advocacy delivered a letter to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) office in Gaza City through a delegation representing the families of prisoners from the Gaza Strip.

The delegation included the wife of the detained physician Dr. Raed Mahdi and the wife of the martyred prisoner Adnan Al-Barsh, who both emphasized during the meeting the importance of the ICRC taking an active role in alleviating the impact of the ongoing Israeli crimes and violations against prisoners in Israeli jails, who are subjected to a series of systematic repression measures.

The wife of the martyred prisoner Adnan Al-Barsh detailed the horrific crime committed against her husband while detained, warning at the same time of similar crimes being committed against prisoners from the Gaza Strip. She called for pressure on the occupation to release her husband’s body along with the bodies of all other martyred prisoners.

The wife of prisoner Raed Mahdi explained that the occupation’s decision to deny families of detainees any knowledge of the places where their relatives are held and to prevent all forms of communication with them constitutes a humanitarian tragedy that must be stopped. She noted that her family and the families of other prisoners are demanding disclosure of the fate of hundreds of detainees from the Gaza Strip, including the locations of their detention, and that they be allowed to visit them as soon as possible in accordance with international humanitarian law.

The Palestinian Center for Prisoners Advocacy had addressed a letter to Ms. Sarah Avnier, head of mission in the Gaza Strip, in which it called on the ICRC to contribute to facilitating family visits to prisoners in Israeli jails, to reveal the locations of their detention in all Israeli prisons and detention centers, and to intervene to stop the ongoing brutal crimes, repression, violations, and medical neglect, as prisoners are facing extremely harsh conditions due to these continuous abuses.
