The investigative report published by the British newspaper The Guardian concerning the secret “Rakevit” prison

What was published by the British newspaper The Guardian regarding the secret ‘Rakevit’ prison once again confirms that the occupation authorities are committing the most heinous war crimes against all humanity through the use of such secret facilities, where Palestinian prisoners are held in unknown locations, under obscure conditions, and without any oversight by international bodies.

The published investigation cites the ‘Rakevit’ prison, which is one among many secret prisons and detention centers where Palestinian detainees—both living and dead—are held. The circumstances and details of these detentions and Israeli practices remain shrouded in secrecy for many years and even decades, which necessitates an urgent international stance and the opening of a serious investigation at the highest United Nations levels to uncover the horrific practices carried out against prisoners in these places.

Secret Israeli prisons and detention centers bear fictitious names and numbers and are located in unknown areas, tens of meters underground. They hold hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. Former freed prisoners have previously given harrowing testimonies about the flagrant violations suffered by anyone detained in these facilities.

We call for intensifying human-rights and legal efforts to protect Palestinian prisoners and detainees, in light of the successive revelations of horrors, atrocities, and forms of systematic torture to which they are subjected in Israeli prisons. We also stress the necessity of continuous Palestinian media follow-up on prisoners’ issues, given the state of Israeli overreach and the increasing severity of the attacks they face.
