The increasing arrests of Palestinian prisoners’ wives in the West Bank is a blatant Israeli act of blackmail

Israeli occupation forces continue to carry out raids and arrest campaigns in cities and towns across the West Bank, targeting the wives of prisoners held in Israeli prisons in what is described as blatant and cheap blackmail, expanding the scope of targeting to include families directly.

These arrests reflect a clear trend toward pursuing the social circles of prisoners. The targeting is no longer limited to the prisoners themselves but has extended to their wives inside their homes, without justification, as part of a repeated pattern of raids and arrests.

These repressive Israeli measures come within an ongoing policy aimed at keeping prisoners, former prisoners, and their families under constant pressure, attempting to influence them by targeting those closest to them and creating a state of anxiety and instability within their homes.

The center holds the occupation authorities fully responsible for the lives and safety of the detained women and stresses that any harm to them inside detention centers or during interrogation will have serious consequences.

It also affirms that the policy of pressure and blackmail through families will not succeed and will not achieve the occupation’s aim of breaking the will of prisoners or influencing them.

The Palestinian Center for Prisoners Advocacy calls for immediate intervention by international and human rights institutions, especially organizations concerned with defending women, to monitor these violations and exert pressure to stop the targeting of women in this manner.

The center warns that the continuation of these practices opens the door to further expansion in targeting families, making them vulnerable to arrest at any time.
