The Palestinian Center for Prisoners’ Advocacy is closely following with deep concern the brutal repression campaigns carried out by Israeli occupation authorities against Palestinian prisoners and detainees in its prisons, under the pretext that some of them expressed feelings of joy or relief following the Iranian strikes targeting military sites within the occupation entity.
The Israeli Prison Service, in a deliberate display of vengeance, released video recordings of raids and beatings inside one of the prisons located in the heart of occupied Palestine (1948 territories), in an attempt to satisfy the urge for repression and revenge among the Israeli public, and to incite further abuse against the prisoners.
We at the Center affirm that these practices constitute a blatant violation of the most basic standards of human rights, a clear assault on the dignity and freedom of the prisoners, and a continuation of the systematic torture policy that we have repeatedly documented against thousands of Palestinian detainees.
The Center calls on the international community, human rights organizations, and the International Committee of the Red Cross to take urgent action to protect the prisoners from this retaliatory assault, to hold the occupation accountable for its ongoing violations, and to ensure its compliance with international humanitarian law, particularly the Geneva Conventions relating to prisoners.
