The Palestinian Center for Prisoners’ Advocacy expresses deep concern over reports confirming that several Palestinian prisoners from the Gaza Strip were injured by shrapnel from Israeli air defense missiles launched this morning. The incident occurred near Megiddo Prison in northern occupied Palestine, during the interception of Iranian missiles.
According to sources, shrapnel penetrated parts of the prison buildings, causing direct injuries to several detainees, including sick prisoners, amid already harsh and inhumane detention conditions.
The Center confirms that, as of this moment, Israeli authorities continue to deny the transfer of the injured to hospitals and refuse to provide them with medical care—a flagrant violation of the most basic prisoner rights guaranteed by the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law.
The Palestinian Center for Prisoners’ Advocacy demands the following:
- Immediate disclosure of the status and names of the injured prisoners.
- Urgent access for International Committee of the Red Cross representatives and human rights organizations to visit Megiddo Prison and assess prisoners’ conditions.
- An international investigation into this compound crime—medical neglect and deliberate endangerment of prisoners’ lives.
We hold the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the safety and well-being of the prisoners, and we warn against the continued gross violations of their rights—especially in light of the recent military escalation.
It is worth noting that Israeli prisons currently hold over 10,000 Palestinian detainees, including thousands from the Gaza Strip, who are suffering under the harshest detention conditions in decades.
