{"id":2370,"date":"2026-08-09T22:01:33","date_gmt":"2026-08-09T19:01:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/palprisoners.ps\/?p=2370"},"modified":"2026-08-09T22:01:33","modified_gmt":"2026-08-09T19:01:33","slug":"testimony-of-the-journalist-mohammed-arab-who-bears-witness-to-the-suffering-of-gaza-detainees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/palprisoners.ps\/?p=2370&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"Testimony of the Journalist Mohammed Arab Who Bears Witness to the Suffering of Gaza Detainees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>More than two years in detention &#8230; a journalist deprived of his freedom, his work, and the most basic of human rights inside Israeli prisons<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Palestinian Center for Prisoners Advocacy is highlighting the case of Palestinian journalist Mohammed Saber Arab, who has been detained for more than two years in Israeli prisons, as one of the witnesses to the reality endured by Palestinian detainees from the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the genocidal war against Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>Their ordeal began with enforced disappearance and being cut off from the outside world, and extended to torture, abuse, and deprivation of basic rights.<\/p>\n<p>Israeli forces arrested Mohammed Arab, a correspondent for Al Araby TV, on March 18, 2024, from inside Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City, where he had been covering events and reporting from the heart of the field.<\/p>\n<p>Israeli forces stormed the medical complex and arrested a number of journalists, medical workers, and displaced Palestinians who were sheltering inside.<\/p>\n<p>From the moment of his arrest, Mohammed Arab entered a prolonged ordeal. According to human rights accounts and testimonies attributed to him, he was subjected to harsh detention conditions that included isolation, abuse, mistreatment, and deprivation of contact with the outside world, amid severe restrictions on access to information about detainees from the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the war.<\/p>\n<p>The Center notes that Mohammed Arab was transferred through several detention facilities during his imprisonment, including various military detention camps, before being transferred to the Negev Prison.<\/p>\n<p>He has been held amid extremely difficult humanitarian conditions endured by thousands of detainees from the Gaza Strip, many of whom were deprived for long periods of family visits, access to lawyers, and human rights monitoring.<\/p>\n<p>Even seemingly simple details of his daily life in prison reveal the extent of the violations detainees are subjected to.<\/p>\n<p>After more than two years in detention, Arab was forced to seek basic rights through the courts, including access to underwear and clothing suitable for the summer, as well as permission to see his own face in a mirror while shaving.<\/p>\n<p>These are ordinary rights that, inside the prisons, have been turned into demands requiring legal proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>The Center stresses that depriving detainees of their most basic daily needs is not accidental, but part of a policy aimed at psychologically weakening them and turning detention conditions themselves into an additional instrument of punishment and humiliation.<\/p>\n<p>This is particularly evident in the treatment of detainees from the Gaza Strip, who have endured exceptional conditions since the beginning of the war.<\/p>\n<p>The Center also points out that the detention of Palestinian journalists represents a direct attack on the freedom to report the truth.<\/p>\n<p>Israeli forces continue to detain a number of journalists in an attempt to prevent the documentation of violations and crimes committed against the Palestinian people.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammed Arab\u2019s case has received broad solidarity from journalistic and human rights organizations.<\/p>\n<p>Journalists\u2019 unions and international organizations concerned with press freedom have called for his release and demanded an end to the targeting of Palestinian journalists because of their professional work.<\/p>\n<p>The Palestinian Center for Prisoners Advocacy calls on international institutions, journalists\u2019 unions, and human rights organizations to take urgent action and exert pressure on the Israeli authorities to release journalist Mohammed Arab and all detained journalists, and to ensure that they receive their humanitarian and legal rights.<\/p>\n<p>The Center stresses that Mohammed Arab\u2019s case reflects part of the reality endured by thousands of detainees from the Gaza Strip who continue to face harsh detention conditions.<\/p>\n<p>It reiterates ongoing calls to reveal their fate, allow international organizations access to visit them, and bring an end to the continuing violations committed against
