The Palestinian Center for Prisoners\u2019 Advocacy said that the Israeli army minister\u2019s approval of carrying out the execution of Palestinian prisoners in the West Bank represents a dangerous escalation that reveals Israel\u2019s shift from practicing field killings as an actual policy to attempting to grant them official cover within a system based on revenge and racism.<\/p>\n
The Center affirmed that this step constitutes a blatant violation of relevant international laws, foremost among them international humanitarian law, the Geneva Conventions, and the basic guarantees related to the protection of detainees and prisoners, their right to life, fair trial, and protection from cruel, inhuman, or degrading punishments.<\/p>\n
The Center added that the approval by the Israeli army minister cannot be read in isolation from the Israeli political climate based on electoral and partisan bidding, where the blood and rights of Palestinian prisoners are being used as material for incitement and for gaining the votes of extremist currents, at the height of the rising fascist discourse within Israel\u2019s government and institutions.<\/p>\n
The Center added that the Israeli army minister, who is politically and operationally involved in the war of genocide and widespread crimes against the Palestinian people, should have been brought before international courts for questioning and accountability, not granting himself the authority to push toward laws and decisions that legalize the killing of prisoners. It added that someone who is supposed to be in the position of the accused for crimes of genocide has no moral or legal eligibility to issue laws affecting the prisoners\u2019 right to life.<\/p>\n
The Center stressed that talk of executing prisoners in the West Bank is not a security measure as Israel tries to market it, but rather a retaliatory policy aimed at terrorizing the Palestinian people, breaking the will of the prisoners, entrenching the logic of collective punishment, and turning the law into a tool of killing in the hands of a racist colonial system.<\/p>\n
The Center pointed out that Israel is moving forward in legalizing laws and practices of a fascist and Nazi nature, beginning with incitement against prisoners and depriving them of their rights, not ending with slow killing inside prisons or field executions, but now reaching the attempt to turn execution into a declared option with unprecedented political cover.<\/p>\n
The Center considered that this approval gives a green light for more crimes against prisoners and detainees, and opens the door to a dangerous escalation in extrajudicial killings, especially amid the spread of a culture of impunity within the Israeli security and military establishment.<\/p>\n
The Palestinian Center for Prisoners\u2019 Advocacy called on the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, international human rights institutions, and the states party to the Geneva Conventions to assume their urgent responsibilities, clearly reject this step, and work to stop it and hold those responsible accountable, considering it a direct threat to the lives of prisoners and a grave violation of international law.<\/p>\n
