The Black List
The ’death penalty law’ is legislation approved by the Israeli Knesset in its second and third readings on March 30, 2026. It mandates the execution of Palestinian prisoners convicted in cases classified as “security-related,” making execution (by hanging) the primary punishment instead of life imprisonment. It also stipulates that the sentence be carried out within a period not exceeding 90 days from its issuance, while restricting the right to appeal or seek pardon.
This law was pushed forward by the far-right party, led by Itamar Ben-Gvir and the “Jewish Power” party, with direct support from Benjamin Netanyahu’s government. It is primarily applied through military courts designated for Palestinians, which gives it a discriminatory and escalatory character within the context of the occupation.
