A continuous escalation in the pace of Israeli Prison Service assaults against Palestinian detainees

The Palestinian Center for Prisoners’ Advocacy clarified that the pace of Israeli assaults on Palestinian prisoners has seen a noticeable increase in recent times.

The Center stated that the dangerous escalation in the practices of the Israeli occupation against the prisoners inside its prisons has become a systematic policy, noting that special suppression units continue to raid prisoners’ sections and rooms, carrying out brutal assaults on them on a daily basis under flimsy pretexts and unjustified excuses.

The Center pointed out that prison guards storm the rooms after throwing sound and gas bombs, before proceeding to attack the prisoners using batons, sticks, and police dogs, in addition to spraying gas and using electric shocks—methods of torture that have become systematic, widespread, and ongoing across various prisons.

The Center added that in addition to physical assaults, the prisoners are currently suffering from harsh climatic conditions, with temperatures in prison locations exceeding 45 degrees Celsius, amid suffocating overcrowding in the rooms, poor ventilation, and the absence of the minimum basic humanitarian necessities.

The Center revealed that the prisoners are unable to sleep due to the extreme heat, with mattresses soaked in sweat from the high temperatures, as most prisons are located in desert areas.

The Center stressed that what is happening inside Israeli prisons requires urgent action from international human rights institutions to put an end to these continuous violations and to ensure the provision of legal and humanitarian protection for Palestinian prisoners.
