Palestinian doctor Marwan Al-Hams was abducted while wounded and is currently detained in extremely harsh humanitarian conditions.

Palestinian doctor Marwan Al-Hams, director of the field hospitals in the Gaza Strip, remains abducted for the second week under dire humanitarian conditions.

Al-Hams was kidnapped by Israeli special forces while on his way to visit the International Committee of the Red Cross hospital, located in an area west of Khan Younis in southern Gaza that the Israeli military itself designates as “humanitarian.” He was shot in the leg before being taken to an unknown location, and later transferred to Ashkelon Prison, according to the latest reports from the Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, which managed to visit him days after his arrest.

His detention has been extended until July 31, and he has been denied access to his lawyer until that date — a legal measure that further deepens his suffering by cutting off all communication with the outside world. He also has not been transferred to a hospital for proper medical treatment.

Israeli assaults against Palestinian doctors and medical personnel continue. Since October 7, 2023, over 360 medical workers have been arrested. Some have died in detention, most notably Dr. Adnan Al-Bursh, who was killed under severe torture.
